What’s New From the Latest Apple Live Event?

Every year, an Apple live event comes along with breaking news of innovative products and devices that are soon to hit the market. The latest Apple launch event occurred Sept. 12, live from the Steve Jobs Theater.

While all sorts of news was made and announced during the event, most of the buzz circled around 4 new products. Here’s a look at those new products and what they mean for fans of the Apple brand.

iPhone XS

The iPhone X made a splash when it hit the market one year ago. At this year’s Apple live event, the company added an updated version called the iPhone XS.

Perhaps the biggest improvement the XS makes over the X is its display. The Apple iPhone XS will feature a Super Retina screen that makes the user experience that much more vivid and satisfying.

Also, the upgraded Core ML engine will make gaming on the iPhone XS better than on previous iterations of the iPhone. Speed and graphics on this device should be killer, and the engine runs 9 times faster while using only 10% of the energy.

Look for enhanced security features, a better camera, more AR capabilities, a gold color option and more from the iPhone XS.

The XS with its 5.8-inch screen will be available starting at $999.

iPhone XS Max

Everything said above about the iPhone XS holds true for the iPhone Max — though the Max features a 6.5-inch screen that is the largest iPhone screen in history.

This larger display should make some of the XS upgrades even more exciting. For example, gaming, AR and photos on this larger screen will help fill the gap between an iPhone and iPad experience.

The iPhone XS Max with 6.5-inch screen is available starting at $1,099. Both the XS and XS Max will first ship on Sept. 21, 2018.

iPhone XR

Rather than introducing an SE model at this live event, Apple instead introduced the iPhone XR — a more affordable option that includes much of what users would get from the XS and XS Max.

The XR features a 6.1-inch LCD display that is known as “Liquid Retina” in the Apple world. It’s not an OLED display like the XS and XS Max, but it should create a satisfying experience for users.

Battery life is boosted with the XR, and it’s available in a range of colors, including yellow, read, white, coral, blue and black.

Apple Watch Series 4

The news wasn’t all about iPhone updates at this Apple live event. There was a big update to the Apple Watch, too, with the announcement of the Apple Watch Series 4.

This Apple Watch is about 30% larger than what was unveiled last year, and it is available in both 40-millimeter and 44-millimeter sizes. The side wheel includes a clicking haptic response that makes it easier to navigate, and there are also enhanced health features.

You can secure an Apple Watch Series 4 with GPS for $399, or you can get the GPS-plus-cellular option for $499. Preorders start on Sept. 14, 2018.
