Some decades back, the post office was the main deal!
If you needed a friend who was miles away to know you just had a baby, your pen needed to dance on paper while writing a letter. Then, your letter had to bear the good news for about four days- before being delivered.
However, the advent of social media changed everything.
In the blink of an eye, your information gets delivered to your best friend in another country.
However, just as every good thing has a downside, the apparent addiction that accompanies people’s social media accounts is becoming crystal clear. Social media also affects your mental health negatively. Consequently, the need for a digital detox now obvious.
Do you want to know how to break your social media addiction? Stick with us and you would!
Here’s how to kick off your digital detox:
Wait a sec…
I’m not asking you to cut off ties with the social world. Since social media poses benefits such as connecting with new friends on Facebook and spotting new dresses on Instagram, we must be still active on some. Right?
Totally.
However, some accounts aren’t useful to you anymore. Although these accounts may entertain you, if all they do is gaggle up your time and give you screen headaches- without having any positive impacts on your goals, you should let them go.
That said, if you feel all you need is some time off, deleting these social apps for a while would also be beneficial. Also, you could sell your phone.
It is super-easy to be drawn to your phone with every buzz. Yet, this constant noise does not only reduce our attention span, but it also makes us more addicted to our phones.
Turning off your notifications lowers the chances of you remembering you have a smartphone- and therefore, gives you more time off the media.
Do you recall when last you jumped on that Twitter convo? If so, you would also remember how hard it was to drop your phone.
The truth is, not every conversation is worth your time. The more you give in to the temptation to drop a tweet, the higher your chances of spending too much time online.
In an attempt to stop this, first, start by resisting that urge. The fact is, whether or not you drop a comment is inconsequential. As long as these conversations do not have a direct impact on you or your goals, turn a blind eye on them. Doing this would help you break social media addiction.
Just as the name implies, social media runs on a ‘social’ backbone. This means you would always be connected to someone on the net.
Social media itself isn’t bad. However, the people we are connected to maybe or may not be. A major criterion for hitting that ‘delete’ button is whether or not the person is a trigger. If the person is, cut off ties immediately.
The equation remains the same- the less triggered you are, the lower your chances of spending a decade on the net. That’s another way on how to not be addicted to social media.
Do you sleep with your smartphone next to you? This is for you.
A simple task such as dropping your device outside your room can create such a positive impact. The harder it is to reach your phone, the easier it is to overcome your addiction.
You must have heard of the phrase: ‘starve your addiction’. That’s exactly how to stop social media addiction.
Although it might be a long journey, a realization that there is also so much life outside of social media would keep you on your feet. Now, you know how to break social media addiction.
