Apple offers a handy feature called “Find My iPhone” for anyone who purchases one of its devices. Find My iPhone helps you find more than just a phone, too. It can also help locate an iPad, Apple Watch or even a Mac computer and other products.
How does Find My iPhone protect a device? Several ways including:
There’s only one challenge: How do you turn Find My iPhone off when you get a new device and get rid of an old device? While many users of Apple products have a hard time figuring out how to disconnect an old device from Find My iPhone functions, it’s actually quite easy.
Here’s a look at the 3 steps you can take to turn Find My iPhone off.
Find My iPhone functions through iCloud. So, to get started with the process, first visit icloud.com and log into your account. If you don’t have your login information for some reason, follow the recovery steps available on the login screen. You should be able to request an email that allows you to reset your password.
When you log into iCloud on a desktop computer, you’ll see a number of icons on the home screen. These icons looks a lot like the apps you see on your phone’s home screen. Navigate to the Find My iPhone icon, and then click on it. You may be prompted to reenter your password.
Once you’re fully logged into Find My iPhone, you should see a compass while the application locates your devices. Once devices are located, you’ll see a map that indicates with green dots exactly where your devices are.
Now, look at the top of your screen, and you should see a menu that says “All Devices,” as well as a pull-down arrow. When you click the menu, you should see a list of all devices associated with your Find My iPhone account.
Click on the device that you want to remove. One of your options will be “remove from account,” and that’s exactly what you want to do. You’ll get a dialogue box that asked if you’re sure about removing the device. If you’re absolutely sure, click “remove.”
And that’s it. Your device is now completely disassociated with your Find My iPhone account.
When you get a new device, it’s important to remove your old device from Find My iPhone. But there’s something else you’ll want to do when you get a new device: Get cash for your old one.
